LIBERATION 27: AUDREY HEPBURN IN BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S

Mattel’s celebrity fashion dolls are a gold mine for those of us who like variety in our collections. With custom molds based on the person in question, each one has a totally unique look. Along with two Audrey Hepburn dolls, Mattel produced two lower-cost outfits based on the Breakfast at Tiffany’s movie, a move that we will hopefully see again in the future. Unlike the previous My Fair Lady Eliza Doolittle doll, Mattel got the rights to Audrey’s likeness this time, and it shows!

The Doll

I love it when Mattel does a celebrity doll and makes the face accurate like this. The mold and face paint here are just exquisite. She has Audrey’s famous doe-brown eyes and big dramatic brows. Her brown shadow and pink lips accentuate her eyes beautifully. Her brown hair has just a few streaks of blond highlights and is styled in a perfect French twist. She has pearl earrings and the necklace and tiara from the movie, but the necklace and tiara don’t come off well.

Audrey has the full Shani body, including the slightly angled waist, done in the pale pink tone. Only two weak clicks in her legs, though.

The Outfit

The outfit is movie accurate and well constructed. The dress has a lined bodice and fastens with three snaps. The accessories are a pair of black gloves (okay, so they look more like oven mitts), black hose, black shoes, and a long dramatic white wrap. It’s enough to make you wish you had somewhere to wear an outfit like this to!

The Accessories

Mattel certainly has a way with accessories. This doll comes with a perfectly reproduced paper sack and coffee cup! She also has a fabulous pair of slightly-tinted glasses, the black purse (which doesn’t open), and the crotch-rocket. In addition, there’s a shiny appeal for donations to Audrey’s memorial charities, which benefit children.

The Result

I just couldn’t change this outfit, especially after I found out that she can hold her bag and glasses with her gloves on!
